I wrote this on a plane as I traveled Christmas Day.
A few hours before I got on this plane, I took a little run; A 3-mile run, or should I say a 3-mile somewhat painful walk.
Just a few weeks ago, on November 11th to be exact, I ran the Athens Marathon; 26.2 miles. That was just 6-weeks ago. Oh, and 6-weeks ago I also weighed 15-pounds LESS than I do now. So what happened? Well, I decided to give myself a total break from the diet and exercise and now I’m paying the price. I’m truly amazed at how quickly things can go to the shitter. But, have no fear because I have good news.
As quickly as things fall apart, they can be put back together. How long does it take? About 3-weeks. When I weighed 350-pounds it took me about 3-weeks to go from my max-walk being a couple of blocks to 4-miles. No joke. It happened that fast.
Gaining health is basically a two-step process; Diet and exercise. It really is that simple. Here is an idea; If you commit to consuming fewer calories and moving/exercising one hour a day for 21-days, I promise you will be surprised at how fast things will improve.
Since I need to get things back on track I’m going to do it starting on Friday the 28th and finish on Thursday the 17th.

Over the years, I’ve learned a few things about turning my health around. Here are two things I know for certain. I know these are true because I lived them:
- Weight loss happens by using more calories than you take in. It’s that simple. Ignore all of the other bullshit you hear. If you burn more calories than you consume you will lose weight.
- Exercise is important. Flexibility, strength, and stamina are key to a happy life. I get sorer when I don’t exercise as opposed to when I do. One note; Exercise will not accelerate weight loss that much, but it will have a very positive mental impact and it will give you some motivation to make it through those DQ Blizzard cravings. Remember this, a hard 1-hour workout only burns about 600 calories. That’s a Blizzard. Is it worth it?
I look forward to hearing from you.
PS-why did I not suggest a January 1 start date? There’s nothing magical about one day over another day. If something is important we should attack it with a very high sense of urgency. Starting is always the hardest part.
PPS-If it’s okay, I’ll send you little updates on how I’m doing by email. Feel free to share your updates with me.
PPS-If you’re in a high-stress job, you better get your ass in gear. Stress and poor health is a killer combination. If you’re in a job like Sales, I 100% guarantee that healthy people sell more.
PPPPS-If you can’t find an hour in your day to exercise then you need to reprioritize your life before you lose it. There are 24-hours in a day. Find 2 for you and don’t let anything stand between you and those 2-hours. 2 For You! I like the sound of that.
