BMF Adventure Club would like to announce Make A Wish as our official charity.
The Make A Wish mission is to grant wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.
The mission of Make a Wish is very similar to the idea behind the brand that is BMF Adventure Club. BMF Adventure Club is about empowering and encouraging others to live life to the fullest and taking those first steps towards accomplishing something they once thought was never possible. We too want to enrich the human experience too.
There is another reason why BMF Adventure Club is committed to assisting Make a Wish. That reason is because Make a Wish saves lives. Let me explain.
Dr. Viktor Frankl was a psychologist who was imprisoned in a Nazi death camp in World War 2. Part of the way he survived the death camp was by turning his imprisonment into an ongoing experiment. In his book, Man’s Search for Meaning, he spoke at length about the importance of having something to look forward to. Although he was a psychologist by trade, he had the title of doctor so he also attended to medical needs in the camps where he was housed. He wrote in his book that once a prisoner in the camp had nothing more to look forward to and to dream about, they would soon die. You see, when a person loses their will to live, it has an actual physical effect on the body’s ability to function and find a way to life.
If you need a bit more proof, think about this. It often happens that a husband or wife who have been married for many years suddenly experiences a rapid decline in health due to the death of their spouse. Although my mother was 12-years younger than my father, she died a little over a year after my father passed away. I watched her literally give up on life.
Need more proof? When my daughter Ellie was battling cancer, there were times that I am sure she wanted to give up. What always got her back to a positive mental mindset was thinking about the two things she was looking forward to; Her Make A Wish Trip and getting a Pug puppy. Eventually, both dreams would come true.
Right now, BMF Adventure Club is not a moneymaking endeavor. It’s just a brand and a hobby. Perhaps someday that will change. For now, we will need to get creative to develop some ways to financially assist Make A Wish.
BONUS: If you want to see what having a wish come true looks like, below is a video link showing the moment my daughter Ellie received her Pug, Poppie. To properly frame the setting, Ellie still had about 4-months of chemo remaining. We were picking her up from summer camp at Camp Rainbow Gold. So you know, Camp Rainbow Gold is place where Idaho kids who are fighting, or have survived cancer, can go for a real summer camp experience. Because most of the kids at the camp are still receiving chemo, they must be constantly monitored. What makes this camp so special is that it is partly staffed by doctors and nurses who are trained in treating children who have cancer. All of the kids in this video either had cancer or was a cancer survivor. I warn you, grab a tissue before you hit play.
